Depending on your skin and the intensity of your treatment, you will likely experience redness for 2 to 3 days after treatment. You may also experience some swelling, itching, and light peeling as your skin heals. While your skin may look completely recovered after a couple of days, healing continues under the surface for several weeks afterward. Treating your skin gently during this time is very important.
Better Skin From the Inside Out
There’s only so much topical treatments can do for acne scarring, skin laxity, and large pores. For a stronger treatment option that targets these issues and more, try microneedling at Premier Dermatology!
Microneedling involves penetrating the skin with hundreds of tiny needles to create micro-injuries in your skin tissue. By creating these micro-wounds, we prompt the skin’s natural healing response, producing more collagen for smoother, brighter, firmer skin. We develop all of our treatments, including microneedling in Waterloo, under the guidance of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Ellerbroek. His expertise allows us to offer you exceptional skin care services.

Works for All Skin Tones
Unlike laser or light treatments that target pigmentation, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones.
Increased Collagen Production
Microneedling stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, which means the results are all natural!
Lasting Results
Microneedling boosts collagen production long-term; many clients see benefits for years!
Deeper Healing with Microneedling
Consultation for a Personalized Plan
Microneedling in Waterloo often involves 3 or more sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, but your treatment plan depends on your unique concerns and desired results. During your initial consultation, we will first get to know you to provide you with a customized treatment plan.
Convenient Treatment
First, we will apply a topical numbing cream to the skin. Then, we will use one of our microneedling devices to go over the affected area. The device uses small needles to penetrate and break up the epidermis. One session can be as short as 15 minutes!
Deep Healing for Firmer Skin
The micro-wounds stimulate your skin’s natural healing response, increasing collagen and elastin production. The extra collagen and elastin fill out your skin, giving you a smoother, firmer look. It may take several sessions to achieve full results, but the results can last up to several years!
Frequently Asked Questions
RF microneedling combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. This combination stimulates greater collagen production for more dramatic results, which may make it a better treatment option for those suffering from more deep-set conditions.
At Premier Dermatology, we use SkinPen Microneedling and INTRAcel RF Microneedling in Waterloo. For mild to moderate conditions, SkinPen Microneedling may be sufficient to reach your desired results. INTRAcel RF Microneedling may be more suitable for people suffering from more severe conditions. During your consultation, you and your provider will discuss which one will be more suitable for microneedling based on your skin and desired results.
We can use both microneedling and laser treatments to either target specific concerns or use for general skin rejuvenation. Treatments that use heat, light, or lasers are not typically suited for people with darker skin tones. Microneedling is an alternative to IPL and laser treatments that offers many of the same benefits without the risk of skin discoloration. That said, many of our patients’ treatment plans may utilize a combination of IPL, laser treatments, and microneedling to address different areas, depths, or skin concerns.
Both microneedling and microdermabrasion are used to improve skin texture and coloration, but there are a few key differences. Microneedling, as described above, penetrates through the upper layer of the skin to stimulate greater collagen production from the inside out, essentially producing a ‘skin remodeling’ effect.
Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is more like a powerful exfoliation technique. An abrasive device helps shed the top layer of your skin in targeted areas, This is oftentimes made up of dead or dying skin cells on the skin’s surface. However, since microdermabrasion only targets this top layer of your skin, it may not be as effective as microneedling for reducing the appearance of deeper scars, wrinkles, or pockmarks.
We can perform microneedling on other parts of the body, like the hands or neck. The face is the most common treatment area because that is where acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, and other skin imperfections most commonly bother our patients.

The standard protocol for microneedling in Waterloo usually involves 3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart.
However, if you decide to try out microneedling just once, you may still be impressed with the results. Some clients report improvements in their skin’s texture and appearance after just one session!
Your provider may recommend more sessions depending on your desired results; it often takes longer to reduce the appearance of deep acne scarring or pockmarks.
We strategically space the timing of the sessions to let your skin heal and give time for the initial results to become visible.
