Permanent Hair Reduction

Unwanted hair, razor irritation, ingrown hairs, and frequent shaving can all take a toll on your skin. Diode laser hair removal (LHR) in Waterloo, Iowa is a safe, effective, and non-invasive solution designed to reduce hair growth while leaving skin smoother and more comfortable.

During a diode laser hair removal treatment, targeted laser energy is delivered into the hair follicle beneath the skin’s surface. The laser selectively heats and disables the follicle, reducing future hair growth without damaging surrounding skin. This advanced technology allows for precise treatment, long-lasting results, and minimal downtime. For professional diode laser hair removal in Waterloo, Iowa, trust the experienced providers at Premier Dermatology.

Gentle Treatment for Smooth Skin

Safe

LHR is an effective, non-invasive treatment; you may experience mild redness and swelling for a day or two, but other side effects are rare.

Effective

LHR can be used anywhere on your body, and has superior results compared to other hair reduction modalities, including IPL.

Lasting

The results of LHR can last up to several years or more; with occasional maintenance sessions, results are long-lasting and if hair regrows it is usually finer and lighter in color.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Preparation

Before treatment, your provider will clean the treatment area and apply a cool gel. This will protect the surface of the skin from the thermal energy of the laser treatment. Before treatment begins, we will give you eye shields to protect your eyes from the laser.

Treatment

Using the LHR handpiece, your provider will apply the laser pulses into the treatment area. We set the laser to appropriate settings based on your skin and hair type. Sessions often take less than half an hour, allowing you to jump right back into your day.

Sessions and Results

To achieve its full effect, LHR treatment in Waterloo usually requires multiple sessions. A general treatment plan is 6 to 8 sessions, each spaced 4 weeks apart for the face and 6 to 8 weeks for body. This allows us to target hair during its active growth (anagen) phase between sessions. Some clients have reported seeing improvements even after just one session!

Frequently Asked Questions

Your provider will give you more information about what to expect from your treatment. Leading up to your Laser Hair Removal session, you should try to avoid sun-bathing and tanning. You should also avoid waxing or plucking 4 to 6 weeks before. Stop using irritating products such as retinols, glycolic acid, chemical peels, or exfoliating agents on the treatment area one week before. Make sure to shave the area to be treated 24 to 48 hours to remove surface hair.

After receiving Laser Hair Removal treatment in Waterloo, your skin can have a mild sensation similar to a sunburn lasting from 2 hours to up to 72 hours. There may be some minor swelling or redness, which usually subsides in 2 to 3 days. For 48 hours following the treatment, use lukewarm water to shower or bathe instead of hot water, and avoid strenuous activity and exercise. Don’t use harsh skincare agents for a week afterward to avoid irritating the skin. If you can, avoid direct sunlight. When you do go outside, use SPF 30+ sunscreen to protect your skin and maximize the benefits of IPL treatment.

Your provider will guide you through any other post-care instructions specific to you.

Some clients report some mild redness and swelling that typically goes away within a day or two. You can return to your normal routine immediately after treatment but you should avoid excessive sweating or physical activity that can elevate core body temperature. You should avoid swimming, jacuzzis, and saunas. Other possible side effects include pain, ingrown hairs, irritation, infection, burns, blistering, and changes to skin coloration, but these side effects are rare.

We use the Primelase HR Excellence Diode laser hair device. This LHR treatment is considered best in class for hair reduction technology and can be used on all skin types, unlike traditional IPL devices.

Laser Hair Removal is not effective with light and very fine hair, often called vellus or peach fuzz hair on the face. If you have severe scarring or have keloid scar tissue, there may be other treatment options than LHR that are better suited to your skin. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections, epilepsy, photosensitizing medications, and certain systemic diseases like lupus are also contraindicated.
